Fortnite fans are counting down to the release of a surprise new end of week update. Fortnite update 30.01 has been given a May 31 release date on PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Android. Surprisingly given the lack of new content, the Friday morning update will be accompanied by a period of server downtime, which kicks off when matchmaking is disabled at 8.30am BST UK time. While server maintenance is never a good thing, Epic has hinted that the game won’t be offline for a lengthy period of time, which means we shouldn’t be without Fortnite for too long. The flipside, however, is that the new update probably won’t add any exciting new features and content, so don’t get your hopes up for any new weapons, POIs or items.

Provided there are no last minute issues, server downtime should only last for around an hour, which means you should be able to start playing by around 10am BST.

The news was announced by Epic Games on X, alongside confirmation about what the update will contain.

“We’re taking a brief downtime tomorrow 5/31 at 4 AM ET to roll out some bug fixes,” reads an Epic tweet.

“Matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes before downtime begins.”

As you can see from the tweet, the update will primarily focus on fixing some of the bugs that have plagued the game since the launch of Season 3.
