Infinix has added more power to its GT lineup this year and it doesn’t miss out on making the device look appealing as well.
Infinix has been a breath of fresh air in the smartphone market recently with some of its products upstaging established names. We recently tested its 40 Pro model that brings MagSafe-like charging to a new price segment, and now it has set its eyes on the gamers with its affordable GT 20 Pro model. Infinix has previously launched GT phones as well but this year the demand and focus seems intent on getting the best value out for the buyer.
The Infinix GT 20 Pro comes for under Rs 25,000 which gets you a unique design ID, performance-centric hardware and other features that might be hard to pull off in this bracket. So, how does the new Infinix GT phone fare compared to the competition? We used the phone to see if it can really become a gamer’s choice who are on a tight budget.
Flashy Design Catches Your Eye
Nothing started the trend for transparent design with LEDs on the panel, and Infinix is now bringing it with the GT 20 Pro model. Technically, it is not transparent but the idea of having Macha Blue lights should appeal to the buyers, especially gamers who are used to this kind of bling on laptops and premium gaming phones. You can tweak the settings of the LEDs and change the colour grade based on your mood or preference.
The phone doesn’t feel cheap and the overall build is quite solid which is essential for a comfortable grip.
The preference for a flat screen makes a lot of sense and the unibody nature seamlessly flows through both sides. The busy section of the camera module is where you have the notification RGB lights and they glow based on messages, calls and other options.
Gamer’s Delight
However, the tag of a gaming phone is incomplete if the hardware doesn’t match up to those claims. Thankfully, Infinix has powered the GT 20 Pro with a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset that shows its worth across all aspects. But more importantly, gaming is where the device scores high on our charts.
The unit we tested offers 8GB RAM and 256GB storage but having this chipset does wonders to the capability of the device. You can play power-intensive games like Genshin or Call of Duty on the highest available settings and still the phone performs without any stutter or major frame drop. Other basic mobile tasks like browsing the web or using social media are unlikely to be a concern when the big guns are handled aplomb.
On the software front, Infinix has once again offered a bloatware-free and feature-rich UI based on Android 14 and the company promises 2 OS upgrades which we would have liked to be for three years.
Crispy Display Adds Charm
Infinix has opted for the AMOLED 1B panel with up to 144Hz refresh rate support for the screen. The brand allows you to change the settings manually from 60Hz, 120H or 144Hz or even go for the auto-switch option even though the display doesn’t get LTPO technology.
The panel offers a good level of brightness and even outdoors you will find it satisfactory. The colours are crisp and the panel produces deep blacks that add extra appeal while you are gaming.
Cameras Not That Impressive
The GT 20 Pro comes with a triple camera system which has an 108MP primary sensor along with a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor. The main camera is the lone shining light in this setup while the rest merely there to make up the number.
You get bright and detailed images when the light is available but in low-light Infinix could add a few tweaks with an update to make it produce better images.
Keeps Going But Charging Not The Fastest
The phone packs a 5000mAh battery which supports 45W charging speed which would be acceptable in most cases, but we would have liked to see at least 60W charging support, which is available with other phones in this range.
Infinix GT 20 Pro shows gaming phones don’t need to cost a living, and still offer a compelling package with appealing design that keeps most people happy. You also have the Nothing Phone 2a and the OnePlus Nord CE 4 available in the market that offer different strengths.
